SGA Remembrance of Evan Bard Our campus is a family, and we are mourning the loss of one of its members. Evan was a kindhearted, caring, and spirited young woman, and will be missed deeply as a classmate, a student, a teammate, and most importantly, as a friend. In recent days, the breadth of support and kind words offered by so many has served as a testament to the positive impact she had on so many lives. We have turned to each other for solace over a life cut all too short, as we celebrate and cherish the memories she leaves us with. Our hearts are heavy as we post this status update following Saturday's tragic loss of one of our students, Evan Bard. The obituary below has been shared with us by Evan's family and includes information about funeral services - The life of our beautiful princess, Evan Minor Bard, was tragically taken on May 11th. Evan's personality and smile would light up any room and her willingness to help others assures she will be missed by many. Evan was a 2010 graduate ofAgawam High School, where she was a member of the cheer squad for 4 years. Always having a heart for children, Evan chose the nursing program at Curry College, in Milton MA, where she cheered and was a Dean's List student. Curry quickly became her family. She loved her nursing classmates, her professors, her many Curry friends but, most of all, her cheer family and roomies. Evan was the cherished daughter of Todd and Barbara (Plante) Bard of Agawam and the much-adored older sister of Leisl and Elijah, both of whom she loved beyond words. Granddaughter of Edward and Dorothy (Minor) Plante (Mimi & Grampa) of Feeding Hills and Francis and the late Roberta (Bonyeau) Bard of Westfield. Treasured niece of Craig & Michelle Plante of Feeding Hills, Godmother Kathleen Plante of Springfield, John & Laura Plante of Glastonbury, CT, Robert Bard of Easthampton, Keith & Kevin Bard, both of Westfield, and Godfather Chris and his wife, Wendy, Bard of Westfield. Evan leaves many adored cousins Addison Plante, Spencer Plante, Kieran Summers, Reile Plante, Quinn Plante, Joshua Bard, Justin Bard, Taylor Bard and Cody Bard as well as many extended family members, especially Ashley Gearing and Katherine Kalill. Calling hours will be Friday, May 17, from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Firtion Adams Funeral Home, 76 Broad St, Westfield. Funeral Service will be on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 a.m., at Westfield Evangelical Free Church at 568 Southwick Rd in Westfield. Everyone is welcome to wear pink in honor of Evan's legendary love of the color. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the newly formed EvvGirlFoundation, Inc., at PO Box 466, Agawam MA 01001. Funds raised will be used to support causes near and dear to Evan's heart, including local Neo-Natel Intensive Care Units (NICU).

Curry College is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our students, Evan Bard, a nursing major in the Class of 2014, who passed away early this morning in a car accident in Canton. Evan was a resident of the Suites, and a member of the cheerleading team. The Curry College community sends our thoughts and prayers to Evan’s family and friends. Our hearts go out to them at this difficult time. We understand how painful and difficult it is to comprehend the loss of any life, and particularly the loss of such a young life. As we grieve as a community for Evan, the College has support services available for our students, faculty and staff. A grief counselor is currently on call and available by phone at 617-333-2222, and will be in the O’Toole Chapel on the second floor of the Student Center from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. We invite community members to join us in the Chapel for support and/or to share their memories, thoughts and prayers in a condolence book which will be given to Evan’s family. The condolence book will remain in the Chapel throughout the week for community members to continue to leave messages for the family. The Bard Family would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers which mean so much during this difficult time. They also would like to thank Evan's teachers, classmates, and teammates for making her time at Curry a happy one. Although the semester is ending with the conclusion of finals today, we are here to support our community on an ongoing basis. Please feel free to contact our Counseling Center at (617) 333-2182 as needed throughout the coming weeks and the summer. We will share information about funeral services when that information becomes available.

Due to the closure of MBTA and directives from local authorities on Friday, April 19, Curry College is advising that residential students should stay on campus today. The off-campus MBTA shuttle has been cancelled. Travel restrictions are in place in selected areas. Off-campus students, faculty and staff should use personal judgment in terms of travel today; those in affected areas should stay at home and follow instructions of local law enforcement and media advisories. The College remains open today.

If you're able, please help the children and teenagers who are living in the Home for Little Wanderers. It means a lot. The drop box is in the Student Activities Office in the Student Center. Thanks!
