"We are working on restarting our generators," she said. "I don't have a specific timeframe as yet for how long it will take for the machines to come fully online." Brasnell confirmed around 1.30 a.m. on Good Friday that Trinidad and Tobago is experiencing an islandwide blackout. She said the blackout is being caused by a lack of gas supply to Powergen/T&TEC. According to a source the National Gas Company, which is responsible for the supply of gas to Powergen/T&TEC, is experiencing issues with a valve on one of its gas lines. This is said to have caused the lack of gas supply.

Reports are of a low gas pressure supply which caused the Powergen.'s supply to trip and shut down. The last time this happened it took over for hours for the restoration of power supply to commence.
