In fact it's often said that it's actually harder for the families left behind than it is for the troops on the front line. We decided to follow one Royal Marine's family to see how they coped with the six months apart. Rebecca Conway had two young children when her husband, Colour Sergeant Dominic Conway, went to Afghanistan. But a third child, a little girl, was born while he was away. This is their story...

Good morning all! It's the big day - thousands of people are set to line the streets of Taunton to officially welcome Somerset's 40 Commando back from Afghanistan. I popped along to their base to watch them training yesterday and we'll have all the build up on Breakfast this morning followed by full coverage right through the day. Ben.

Emma met the man in charge of the UK Hydrographic Office which is based in Taunton today. Emma asked him whether they do lots of secret stuff there because it's quite mysterious!
