I've found now that every weekend afternoon there's usually a 40 minute doze at some point. Worryingly, it's also regardless of where I happen to be. In the past few weeks, siesta locations have included a bus, (missed my stop), a friend's kitchen & the local park after a run. Hope I'm not alone in this ..

Love driving cross country this time of year. Always amazed how colourful the fields are everywhere you go. What would Beethoven, Vaughan Williams and Elgar have made of all the yellow, I wonder. I think think it's stunning, but it's not to everyone's taste I know. Bob

It's the 70th anniversary of the Dambusters raid. Tessa Cross is a Classic FM listener and her mother was one of those who worked behind the scenes on preparations for the mission. Happy birthday to Thomas Gainsborough, the painter, born this day in beautiful Suffolk in 1727. His home county was a huge source of inspiration for his works along with his friends & family. He also painted a couple of composers as well, Johann Christian Bach & Carl Abel. I think this is my favourite of his though, Landscape in Suffolk.

I've just come back from the Sony Radio Academy Awards where Classic Fm won the UK Radio Brand of the Year. Great to be on stage with the entire Classic Fm team and to shake hands with Billy Ocean who presented the award. To quote Billy "when the going gets tough, the tough get going". Any old excuse to show my favourite picture of Sibelius looking a little 'Adams Family-esqe!'. Finland's national anthem - Maame or Vårt land in Swedish - first performed on this day in 1848. Apparently some campaign to get it swapped for Sibelius's 'Finlandia'. Who's got the best national anthem I wonder? Happy early Monday from Bob.
