I've never actually typed out a recipe before, so I really hope this is easy to follow. It may be too detailed, but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. Please let me know if you have any questions!! ~Helen Helen’s American Flag Rice Krispie Treats (makes approximately six treats that are five inches by four inches, but can be used to make treats that are smaller or bigger depending on your preference) Ingredients: 6 cups of Rice Krispies 10 oz bag of marshmallows 3 tablespoons of butter red food dye blue food dye Directions: --Split the Rice Krispies, marshmallows, and butter into thirds. (You can actually put a LITTLE bit more into one from another because you will need more red than blue.) --Over low heat, melt the butter and marshmallows in a large skillet or decent sized pot. (I used a pot that holds two quarts.) --Add a couple of drops of blue food dye into the marshmallows and butter and stir to make the color even. Keep adding more dye until it is a nice color that you want. I used approximately 10-15 drops of dye. --Dump in the Rice Krispies and stir around to coat them evenly with the butter and marshmallows. --Let them cool just a little bit so that they don't burn your hands but not too much so that you can't form their shape. --Here is a trick to forming their shape: Wash your hands after each shape you make. It won’t stick to your slightly damp hands. --With the blue Rice Krispies, you will need to make a squareish rectangle. (HaHa. That’s the best way I can describe it.) I used the corner of a baking pan layered with wax paper to help make the two sides and then I used my hands to shape the other two sides and it seemed to work alright. --Once the blue part is made, it is best to move onto the red. --Wash out the pot you used for the first part so that the colors don’t mix. --Use the marshmallows and butter and Rice Krispies that had slightly more for this part. Repeat the directions from above: melting marshmallows and butter over a low heat and adding the red food dye until you get the color you desire. I think I only used about 10 drops of food dye for the red, but I could be wrong. Also like above, allow them to cool just for a minute or two so that you don’t burn your hands, but make sure they are kind of warm so that you can manipulate it. --It’s a bit of a pain to wash your hands so much, but it really helps with this part of the recipe. You want to use your hands to form a red rectangle that is approximately one inch by five inches and two rectangles that are approximately one inch by three inches. Attach the smaller rectangles to the blue square by pressing firmly. Place the larger red rectangles about an inch below the blue and red part. --Wash out the pan one last time and use it to melt the marshmallows and butter again. This time, food dye won’t be needed. Allow it to cool just a bit and once it is at a temperature that you can hold in your hands, use the white to help bind the red and blue together. Stuff the white in between the cracks of the red and make sure that they are touching enough so that when they dry, they will bind together. --Put them in the fridge for a couple of hours so that they can cool down. It will help cement them together as well. Enjoy!! Please let me know if you have any questions. This was my first time making them and it was all by sight, so I may have forgotten something. Since my fiance is deployed, I send him a care package once a month. In each care package, I include a homemade treat. (I also theme the package around an upcoming holiday.) The theme for this one was the Fourth of July, so I made American flag Rice Krispie treats!! I didn't have a recipe and just went "of the cuff" with it, but thought I would share it with you in case you would like to try!! :) ~Helen P.S. Oh goodness, it's painful to watch. As a former pageant contest, I know how nervous you can become throughout the entire pageant process, let alone for some, the scariest part is the live interview questions. Luckily, interview, whether on-stage or the personal interview, was always my strong point. But there were several girls, including my best friend, who was terrified of it. If your nerves get the best of you, you can take an intelligent person and make them seem like the dumbest person in the world in a heartbeat. It's so uncomfortable to watch this though...and made me think of Miss Teen SC a few years ago. Eek. If you've listened over the past couple weeks I've mentioned a guy named Cole Swindell a few times. I met him a couple months back at Luke's show in Fayetteville and spent about an hour talking to him and listening to his music. He's written several songs with and for Luke and Fla. Ga. Line. With Keifer Thompson being on voice rest Cole has gotten a chance to open several shows on the Luke Bryan tour. Here's a web video that has put together about him. Not a good weekend for LoCash Cowboys! Chris and Preston were en route to a Wisconsin gig coming from New York, their bus blew it's two front tires and ran off the road and was totaled!!! Guys are a little banged up but escaped with just minor bangs and scrapes.. Somehow continued on the the Wisconsin gig. Here's a picture they tweeted of the aftermath. The storm that rolled through Thursday was a big one but it looked even scarier on the other side of the State. Never seen THIS before. They were calling it a Horizontal Tornado. My daughter sent it to me, she has friends that live in Albermarle, NC. The video is eerie!!!
