The list of elected officials who received free tickets to see the Winnipeg Jets is growing. City of Winnipeg Councillors Jeff Browaty and Paula Havixbeck admit they were given tickets by Canad Inns, while Coun. Brian Mayes also admits he didn't pay for two tickets he received from Mayor Sam Katz in January. Conflict questions about politicians receiving Jets tickets arose last week when it came to light that at least eight Manitoba MLAs had taken in free games, courtesy of tickets from private companies or Crown agencies. Crown corporations that receive Jets or Bombers tickets through a sponsorship agreement are encouraged to donate them to charities or community groups, or given them to employees as part of a "fairly-administered employee recognition policy." Some have argued however that tickets should be able to be used for "business purposes", to build relationships with customers and suppliers, while others don't think that politicians receiving free tickets is an issue, so long as they aren't paid for with tax dollars. In order to quell the controversy, the Manitoba government has established a new policy that forbids politicians from accepting any tickets to pro sports events. Do you agree with this? We encourage you to weigh in on this issue.

Earlier this year a report on educational performance showed that Manitoba ranked near the bottom of Canada's provinces. It wasn't the first dismal report card issued for the province's education system. In fact, independent assessments show over the last decade that Manitoba has been steadily sliding in educational performance, despite annual spending of more than 3.7 billion dollars. It has caused leaders in both education an business to cry that we are falling behind in the area most crucial to Manitoba's future. Is Manitoba failing to make the grade when it comes to the province's education system?

The Conservatives are signalling that they are preparing to get tough with unemployed Canadians who refuse jobs they consider below them or too far away. Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says unemployed Canadians should be prepared to take just about any available job, telling reporters "There is no bad job. The only bad job is not having a job." Do you agree with Flaherty that there’s no such thing as a bad job? What's the worst job you've ever had?

In a letter to the City of Winnipeg, Canalta Hotels has withdrawn their proposal for a water park and hotel complex at The Forks. Coun. Justin Swandel, who supported the proposal, said he is "disappointed." Get ready to pay for your next photo shoot at Winnipeg's Assiniboine Park. The Assiniboine Park Conservancy, a non-profit organization that manages the park, says it will charge a $150 fee to anyone who wants formal pictures taken in the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden, the English Garden and the Assiniboine Park Conservatory. The new fee will help pay for park development and will make sure groups that want to be photographed there will have the spot they want, when they want it. Do you agree with Assiniboine Park charging a fee for photos? Are you a photographer, and are you worried the fee will deter clients from using the park for photos?

Eleven environmental groups, including Greenpeace International, World Wildlife Fund and the David Suzuki Foundation, took out newspaper ads today to draw attention to proposed changes to environmental law contained in the government's latest budget implementation bill. The Black Out, Speak Out campaign calls on Canadians to raise their voices against proposed changes to environmental law — changes environmental groups say will "weaken environmental rules and silence the voices of those who seek to defend them," said John Bennett, executive director for Sierra Club Canada. Bill C-38 makes substantial changes to many Canadian laws, including many that affect the government's stand on the environment. Let us know what you think. Should the changes to environmental law be pulled out of the budget implementation bill?
