Tonight on KUVO In 1971, the Jazz Crusaders dropped the word “Jazz” from their name, hooked up with a young session guitarist by the name of Larry Carlton and released an album called “Crusaders 1.” The album was a move away from their hard bop and soul-jazz roots into a funkier sound, but the top-notch playing and improvising as well as a strong jazz sensibility remained. Tune in to the Vinyl Vault, Tuesday evening at 8:30 to hear a few tracks from this early 70's classic. ONLY ON KUVO/KVJZ/kuvo.org.

Steve was a staunch supporter of the Denver jazz scene; attending shows, giving exposure to local musicians and encouraging others to do the same. Tuesday? It must be time for the Vinyl Vault! This week on the Vinyl Vault, we’ll hear another ECM release; this one from bass player Eberhard Weber called “The Following Morning.” Released in 1977, it features Rainer Bruninghaus on keyboards with some understated orchestration. Ethereal, atmospheric and melancholy, it nevertheless features beautiful melodies and textures. The Vinyl Vault, Tuesday night at 8:30 only on KUVO/KVJZ and kuvo.org.
