Teacher Appreciation Week Continues!!! Here's a story from Ana Kelly. What teacher has made a difference in your life? "I was NEVER good at math except one year in the 6th grade, all because of one special person, Mr. Dwyer. He was a mathematics teacher at Sharples Middle School in the South end. It was the time of desegregation in Seattle and us Northender’ kids we were bused to South end to go to school. Mr. Dwyer made that awkward transition so much easier because he was positive, engaged, inspiring and taught us about accountability. So much so that every day we would go home with homework and he expected it back the next morning; He wouldn't take it home to grade it, he would grade it right away. We would get it back so we could work on it in class. He would help us with the problems we had the most trouble with. I felt like he really cared about me and that I GOT it! It was a big confidence booster. Math has never been my strong suit (that's one of the reasons why I got into broadcasting) but with Mr. Dwyer's passion for teaching....math became fun! In fact the top 5 kids who had the best homework records for the month would be treated to a Mariners game at the Kingdome. Guess who was top 5 that month?! Me! I still can't believe I was good at math…..well at least for a couple of semesters anyway. Who knows, if I had a Mr. Dwyer in EVERY math class I took in school maybe I could've been a Boeing Engineer. Hmmmmm. Thank you Mr. Dwyer! You will never be forgotten.....home run!"
